Sick Hybrids; The Marin Kentfield Lays Waste to the Hybrids of yore.
It’s no secret that we are big fans of Marin Bikes here at Outpost.
Since we first opened back in 2015 Marin has been a staple brand for us. It’s for good reason too. At Marin, their approach has always been to make really well-designed bikes for regular folks at a killer value. This philosophy couldn’t be more obvious in the Kentfield series of hybrid bikes.
In their own words, Marin calls the Kentfield “perfect for your daily trips and further-afield exploration on the weekend”. They couldn’t be more right.
If the drop bars on their Nicasio series gravel/all-road bikes are not your style (or you are just looking to set a bit more upright), the Kentfield could be your perfect ride.
We love the 1x drivetrain which eschews the use of a front shifter in favor of simplicity. Less to maintain, less to think about. More brain cells to allocate to enjoying the ride.
The taller front end makes it easy to get the bars up to a comfy level for the most casual rides. But don’t fret, the geometry of the bike is still sufficiently zippy to make trips to work or the farmers market fly by.
Want to take it on an overnight trip to camp at Chickahominy Riverfront Park on the capital trail? No problem. Marin never skimps on all the mounting points for racks or bikepacking bags and the 700c wheels with smooth-rolling tires will get you and your gear there with time to spare.
For a do-it-all “Richmond-style” hybrid bike on a budget, it truly is the people’s champ.
