Braden's Endpoint Night Moves, All-Road; Update.
My Endpoint Night Moves. A tale of sore hands and constant dithering in pursuit of the perfect bike for every ride.
So a few years ago my side hustle with some cool friends, Endpoint, came out a with new bike frame. We built a small batch of our take on the classic “radonneuring” bike but with most of the modern updates. Designed to run the Searchlight steel fork to create low-trail geometry and a matching front rack and bag OR with a carbon fork to create more traditional road bike geometry, the Endpoint Night Moves filled a nice gap in my quiver. A bike to keep a dynamo light on year round as well as a machine for long pavement heavy rides so I would in theory keep my Endpoint Coffee Grinder set up with gravel tires.
And it worked. I intally built it up with Campagnolo Chorus 2x12 components with hydraulic brakes. For a while I ran the steel fork and front bag for commuting and was quite happy. However, in the spring of 2023 I had the itch to do some Bryan Park races after a hiatus. The steel fork, rack and lights came off and on went a Whisky carbon fork. From long distance lightweight rando/tourer to road bike. After jumping in a few races throughout the summer and doing some general road riding the days were starting to get short again so the dynamo light needed to go back on.
This time though, I realized that for me the carbon fork and “road bike” setup was where I wanted to stay. I reconfigured my light placement with the help of some clever parts from K-Edge and Sinewave and continued riding it as it had been since May.
Overall, things were working great with one ongoing caveat. The Campagnolo shifters were never really a good fit for my hands. I fiddled with different bars, tape, and even some inserts to improve things, but at the best I found myself mildly annoyed and on long days my hands just straight up hurt. I really did love the performace of the groupset otherwise so between stubborness and laziness, I just dealt with it.
Fast forward to this spring and I ended up piecing together a dedicated road bike for Bryan Park and left the dynamo wheel and light where it was on the Night Moves. I build the Cervelo road bike with the same Sram Rival mechanical shifters that I had been running on my gravel bike and after a few longer road rides, I finally gave up.
The Campagnolo parts had to go. A sad day, but I knew my hands would thank me.
So here I was, swapping groupsets. This time I decided to stop messing around and just make things consistent. The end result was all three drop bar bikes having the same shifters/brake levers and in the case of both disc brake bikes, the same Growtac brakes.
