West Point 200k 2022, Recap. "Up and Over,..."

This past Sunday I set out to do the second of our 200km (124.274mi, ca.) group rides for the year.  After quite a bit of forecast flip-flopping, the weather seemed to settle with “overcast, damp, and (most importantly) cool”.   By 8am twenty other slightly crazy souls had arrived to join in.  I had a hunch the front of the ride was going to be a bit spicy...

Growtac Equal Brakes. So hot right now, but do they deliver?

Mechanical disc brakes on drop bar bikes are a funny thing.  As much as the big brands would like you to believe that hydraulic brakes are the only way to roll, there are still plenty of people rolling on cable-actuated stoppers.  It’s easy to forget that before Sram and Shimano released fully integrated hydraulic brake and shifter systems for road and gravel bikes, there was a period where riders were beginning to open their eyes to the advantages...

Six Rivers 200k, Part 1-3 "The Return", "Top 5...

After a two year Covid hiatus our 200k ride series is BACK. The last time we did these rides (all the way back in 2019) we rode the 6 Rivers, West Point, and Jamestown Nocturnal 200.   This year all three are back (with some fun updates) and we’re kicking things kick off with the 6 Rivers 200.

Dirtbags Present; Ol' Dirty South Hill 2022, Recap.

Last Saturday we managed to convince around 40 fellow bike-nerds to drive from Richmond down to Lacrosse to ride the inaugural Old Dirty South Hill mixed-surface “road” ride.

Elsa’s Cleary, and why kids bikes are important.

It’s easy to just write off kids' bikes as a toy.  Chances are if you're reading this, that it’s been a while since you were running around a playground like a maniac at recess with plenty more energy to burn on the weekends. As an adult, it’s pretty easy to grasp why better quality equipment makes for a better experience.  For a bike that generally means fit, ride quality, efficiency, and weight.  Those are all pretty straightforward to optimize.  A frame that fits works better because you are more comfortable and better

Our Favorite Things; The Marin Nicasio.

Several years ago Marin released the original Marin Nicasio.  Since then it has become one of our best selling bikes and for good reason. In the past, most entry-level road bikes were just that, ROAD bikes.  Affordable, but not exactly versatile.  Rim brakes and little room for larger tires made for bikes with a very limited range...

Dirtbags Present; The Tobacco South Central Ride.

I’m not going to lie, some of us at Outpost just live for big dumb rides and doing sketchy stuff along the way. But we get it, it’s not for everyone.  We’ve been putting on 200-kilometer rides, cutting through tree farms, and hike-a-biking through fields since Outpost opened, and all this time people have asked for a ride that isn’t 130 miles or doesn’t involve sketchy stuff.

Sick Hybrids; The Fairdale Weekender.

It should come as no surprise that we are extra excited to have received quite a few 2022 Fairdale Weekenders.  After all, we have sent over  70 of these amazing bikes into the wild since we opened almost 6 years ago. All in, it’s our best selling bike and for good reason.  It’s easily one of the versatile “hybrid” bikes we sell and I’ll get into why...

Mandatory Reading, "Get a Bell Ding Dong!"

Next time you grab your bike to go ride, take a look at your bars.  I bet for many of you there is something important missing. I have a pretty varied diet of miles on the bike these days.  Some commutes, some road rides, some times on the cap trail...

Scott's custom Surly Bridge Club build.

Scott needed a bike to do a little bit of everything around town.  Roads, trails, broken pavement and gravel paths, a bike that can handle it all.  But most importantly, it needed to be fun.

New Hours, Curbside Pickup, Updated Covid-19 Protocol.

In an effort to remain open, protect our employees, and continue to serve our community, we have taken the following steps to refine our existing protocols.

Winter Training Series #1 Recap, out east.

On Saturday, January 25th a large group of riders set out on a 100-kilometer training ride to begin building up to our “200k and longer” series of rides that start later in the spring.  We rolled from the shop and made our way down to the Shiplock Park trailhead of the Capital Trail. From there the route meandered East on and off the bike trail...
